One cracked window, a customer who trips on your hose, or a stripped paint job can turn into a claim bigger than your whole year’s profit. Pressure washing insurance is what keeps one bad day from ending your business. Here’s what to carry and what it usually costs.
The 4 policies most pressure washing businesses need
- General liability: covers third-party injuries and property damage, like a customer tripping over your hose. This is the one almost every customer, HOA and property manager will ask for.
- Inland marine (tools and equipment): covers your pressure washer, surface cleaner, hoses and trailer while in transit or on a job site.
- Commercial auto: personal auto policies often exclude business use. If your truck hauls your rig, you likely need this.
- Workers’ compensation: required in most states once you hire employees. It covers on-the-job injuries.

How much does pressure washing insurance cost?
| Coverage | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| General liability (solo operator) | About $500–$2,500 per year |
| Starter bundle (BOP: liability + property) | From about $74 per month |
| Typical base package | About $840 per year |

Insurance alone isn’t enough: use a contract too
Insurance pays for claims. A written service agreement and liability waiver prevent many claims from happening in the first place, because pre-existing damage (oxidized paint, failed window seals, loose siding) is documented and signed before you start.
Put “Fully insured” on your estimates, door hangers and website. It’s one of the top reasons homeowners pick one company over another. See also: what to include in a pressure washing contract.
Note: this is general information, not insurance or legal advice. Talk to a licensed agent in your state.
